The 2012 MTV VMA awards is one of the highlights of the music calender with the biggest names around attending the event.

This year all eyes are on the 'Best Pop Video' prize as Bieber's 'Boyfriend' goes up against One Direction's smash hit 'What Makes You Beautiful'?

Other contenders for the prestigious award are fun and Janelle Monae for their track 'We Are Young', Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa for the 'Payphone' and Rihanna for her Calvin Harris banger 'We Found Love' vid.

All the nominees are taking the award very seriously, with Bieber and the 1D lads both taking to Twitter to beg for their fans to vote.

Bieber's fans have been helping him out, giving him 23 million votes for 'Boyfriend' but it looks like it will be a tight race as the 1D lads currently have 23.5 million votes for 'What Makes You Beautiful'

However the singer tried to cool things between him and One Direction fans tweeting: "[I] want no arguments with my fans with others,"

"No need for that. if i can be friends with other artists we can be friends with other fans."

So as time ticks down to this year's MTV VMA Awards, Entertainmentwise wants to know are you team Bieber or team Justin??
