Can Drake keep Justin Bieber from repeating for Male Video at MTV VMAs? - GoldDerby

Justin Bieber is likely to win Best Male Video for a second year in a row. If he prevails as predicted for "Boyfriend," Bieber would become the fifth artist in the twenty-eight year history of the VMAs to win this category twice.

The two-time champs to date are: Tom Petty (“Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” 1994; “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” 1995); Beck (“Where It’s At,”1996; “Devil’s Haircut,” 1997); Will Smith (“Just The Two of Us," 1998;  “Miami," 1999) and Justin Timberlake (“Cry Me a River,” 2003 and in 2007 when no specific videos were cited).

In this era of social media, Justin Bieber is one of the dominant forces. If music does not dramatically change course next year, he will likely return to this category for his latest video “As Long As You Love” starring Michael Madsen. It will be interesting to see if Bieber can tie Eminem’s record three wins.

Standing in Bieber's way is fellow Canadian Drake who contends for "Take Care" which features VMA favorite Rihanna. Both Drake and Rihanna have a leading five nominations.

Two of this year's other contenders are looking for their second win. “Climax” is Usher’s fifth nomination for Best Male Video; he won in 2004 for “Yeah.” And “Turn Up the Music" is Chris Brown’s second nomination in this category; he won for “With You” in 2008.

Frank Ocean is a first time nominee for his video “Swim Good” and not likely to upset.
